Why We Exist

You don’t need all the answers to be a thoughtful teacher.

The most meaningful professional development often begins with a question.

What could I do differently? Why did that approach work? How might I better support this student?

Every dance class brings new challenges, new discoveries and new opportunities to learn. Even the most experienced teachers continue to adapt and evolve.

Dance Teacher CPD was created to offer accessible opportunities for that ongoing exploration. Rather than prescribing one correct way to teach, our courses encourage you to investigate different approaches and develop your own professional understanding.

Our Learning Philosophy

Three simple ideas.
Endless possibilities.

Professional learning is not just about collecting information. It’s about what you do with it.

01.

Explore.

Discover different perspectives, teaching strategies and creative possibilities. Expand your thinking and consider ideas that challenge the familiar.

02.

Reflect.

Consider your existing practice. What works well? What could change? Use your own experiences to ask meaningful questions about your teaching.

03.

Experiment.

Take ideas into the studio. Try new approaches, observe what happens and use your discoveries to inform your next steps.

“The classroom isn’t just where you teach. It can also be where you learn.”
The spirit of reflective practice

Notice.
Question.
Try.
Learn.

A continuing cycle of professional discovery.

Practice as Research

Your experience is part of the learning.

We are interested in the ideas behind reflective practice, practitioner enquiry and practice as research.

These approaches recognise that valuable professional knowledge can develop through asking questions, making observations and investigating our own teaching experiences.

You don’t need to conduct a formal research project to begin reflecting more deeply on your classroom practice.

Try a different approach to giving corrections.

Explore how students respond to a change in lesson structure.

Reflect on the way you communicate with different learners.

Observe, adapt and consider what you’d like to explore next.

Grounded in Experience

Made with real dance classrooms in mind.

Dance Teacher CPD has grown from practical experience in dance education, teaching students of different ages and abilities, creating learning programmes and supporting dancers throughout their training.

Teaching involves far more than knowing steps and choreography. It calls for creativity, communication, flexibility and an understanding of the people in front of us.

Our courses invite teachers to explore these wider aspects of their work, recognising that each teaching environment is different.

Beyond the Steps
Teaching is creative.
Teaching is human.
Teaching keeps evolving.

Our Commitment

Honest, thoughtful professional development.

We believe in being clear about what short courses can offer, and equally clear about their limitations.

What our courses offer

Ideas to build upon.

Opportunities for informal CPD, fresh perspectives, guided reflection and practical experimentation that can complement your existing knowledge and experience.

What they don’t claim

Every answer or a new qualification.

Our courses are not substitutes for recognised teaching qualifications, specialist training, safeguarding requirements or professional accreditation. Completing them does not establish specialist competence or a qualification to teach a discipline.

Your Own Journey

We don’t want every teacher to teach the same way.

We want to encourage teachers to become more reflective, informed and adaptable in their own approach.

You bring your own experiences, strengths, challenges and professional knowledge to every course.

Perhaps you’ll leave with a new classroom strategy. Perhaps you’ll see a familiar problem from a different perspective. Or perhaps you’ll simply find a question worth investigating.

All of these can represent meaningful professional development.

Keep exploring.
Keep questioning.
Keep growing.

Wherever you are in your teaching journey, there’s always something new to discover.
